Especially with this story:

Zeda Haas, the brother of NRL superstar Payne Haas, has been arrested after being found in possession of 1.8kg of methamphetamine.
He was arrested outside of Newcastle and charged with attempting to bring the drug into NSW from Queensland. It has an estimated street value of $1.1 million.

NRL News: Haas' brother arrested on $1m meth charges, TPJ retirement questioned, Taumalolo set for Finals charge

JFH …Says his deal is $714,282 a season. Or it’s currently part of $5 Million over 7 years.
Bargain deal in comparison.

Haas rejects Wallabies and Bulldogs to remain in Brisbane - mere minutes after TPJ quits to free up cap space

Not really. He won a competition there, but they were more bad as a team than good. Could easily have chosen to go anywhere else, but didn’t.
Plus he said himself, that he’d considered leaving the Cowboys, to win a premiership. Before he won one there.

The Knights get a lot of noisy support at home , with a sold out stadium. I hope that Hastings is good to play.
You know everyone else wants the Knights to Win , right? 😂
Go Knights!!!

Round 25 Team Lists Late Mail: Cowboys make Nanai call, Hastings races clock, Dolphins hit for six, Roosters boosted by duo

I didn’t say that Penrith were the only club to lose players? Just gave you the old , ‘can’t keep them all’ bit. As I find it very annoying. 😂
Yet it’s interesting that the Broncos can be forced to lose a few players & at the same time, can still afford to buy your Reynolds & Walsh ( buy him back )type of players. Not doing too bad there.

Clearly you’re not a Penrith supporter & reading all the stories about Penrith losing this player or that player. Due to the cap squeeze. They haven’t been letting lots of players be signed by other clubs over the last 4 seasons, due to wanting to do them a favour.

Same as in any club. Panthers ( the League’s Club ) & the Penrith Rugby League Club are separate entities. Although set up to support the Rugby League club, Panthers is limited in the amount that can do that.
Every supporter can complain about what they see happening to their club. I’m pretty sure that you do that. 😁

Of course they were buying players from the club right through the 70’s, 80’s, 90’s. Just because you don’t know them or about the club. Doesn’t man that it didn’t happen . More particularly at every level of juniors. Although Des Hasler ,Ray Blacklock, Phil Gould etc say Hi!

As they’re not buying talented players. Mostly just replacing their own juniors, with their own juniors. Shows a bit better management of the players who can play for the club , from juniors & pathways. Possibly better coaching too.
That should be the aim of any club. I’ve been a supporter of that type of system forever.
The only question is. If you’re not a club who buys a lot of top players & depend on your own pathways & juniors system. How do you replace the first graders bought by other clubs, when they also go on buying the best of the juniors?
They aren’t a club with huge private backers. So this is the only way that Penrith can be competitive.

It’s not next season as yet. The Dogs have been buying plenty of players, so they are unlikely to stop now.
Plus, give them some credit. Their lower grades have been going well. Time for some more forwards from those grades to step up.

As Penrith have been around since 1967. I don’t think that’s true. You don’t have to performing well as a team , for other clubs to buy your best players. In fact, more players are more likely to leave, if they aren’t going well.

Brisbane replaces forwards easily. Most Broncos supporters have been on here saying let Haas go. As they will need the money to keep Walsh, Mam , Cobbo, Carrigan etc.
If you look at the Broncos squad now. Probably the most talented squad.

I’d say they’ve signed those players, as they’ve lost the best of the young players.
You can’t promote anyone that’s not there?

Well it’s the end of 2023 , for League. So back 2023, 2022, 2021 & 2020. Puts it at the start of 2020…That’s 4 years. 👍

Something that I hear every time other clubs buy Penrith players.
You can’t keep them all.

Don’t agree with you at all. On the retaining the best of the juniors. Penrith’s lower grades are far worse this year , than last year. A lot of that is to do with the loss of many of the clubs best young halves . Including Katoa, Puru . Hanson next year.
You really believe that they’ve retained the best players?
Penrith will have about 8 of the first grade squad next season, that were there at the start of 2020.
Penrith have supplied so many first grade players to so many clubs of late. Just look at Parramatta, Bulldogs, West’s . Not many clubs not running around with former Panthers in their first grade squads.

I meant the start of 2020. As it really is the end of 2023.
You’re also not adding in the losses of Crighton & Leniu , for the end of this year. As it doesn’t go with your argument.

You have to admit that it’s a far worse roster than 4 years ago. Even worse next year.
I thought it would be working towards a bit of a rebuild this year. It will be next year.

That sounds like an ideal. Yet, the Sombrero Clubs exist. 👍

Thurston went back to the Cowboys & played there for the rest of his career. Mostly, not behind the best pack. Depends on how they look at it?

Maybe. Leota & Fisher-Harris have played in 3 GF’s in a row . They aren’t paid as much as that. Thank Goodness! 😁
( Different type of player compared to those 2. Yet I think Leniu is just about as good a player as them . Also not going to be paid that much ).

Given the salary cap available, how would they then have the money to pay the whole squad?

Big money for Haas. The same amount each year as for Fa’asuamaleaui. You don’t want that amount becoming the norm for props.

Such is the interest & excitement of the Knights end of year revival in the Hunter region, that the Knights Versus South’s game for Sunday is already sold out.
For the following weeks home game against the Sharks , 30 % of tickets are already sold.
Go Knights ! 👍

If he’s retiring , he won’t receive the rest of his contract money, will he? He’d need to play out the rest of the contract to get that.
