To be fair FunBus, that was a small (albeit pointed) part of the bigger point around consistency.

'Mockery', 'broken game', 'laughing stock': Rugby rages as red card reversal clears Owen Farrell for World Cup

An argument was made recently that Sexton’s ban was mitigated somewhat when compared to the Hartley/Barnes incident. This is despite Hartley had no history of abusing match officials.

Farrell has form with these high shots and manages to downgrade the charge. There’s an example in the body of the article with Moala… Similar incident similar outcome you reckon?

Re: Porter/Retallick. You’re right that there wasn’t an uproar exactly. There was, however, quite a bit of confusion and a lot of frustration that Angus Taʻavao got red carded for knocking himself and Ringrose out with a last second change in direction. Porter only “passively” broke Retallick’s face… If the first incident is a red, the second is too.
Fair call in not calling people liars – absolutely fair. But fair to say that there is an issue with double standards right now. On and off the field.

That’s not too old for a prop. Quite decent actually..

Reds sign TWO All Blacks props - and one of them could play for the Wallabies next year

Very promising…

Ah yeah. I recall there being family ties now that you mention it.

Interesting thought re: Bronco’s. Think he would make a decent league player.

Was there similar sentiment when Taniela Tupou came over and blocked local talent? Genuine question btw – not looking to start anything.

Sounds like retention is the issue…

Agree – should be at his peak during the next wc.

“So I think he’s sort of had a reset moment. He genuinely believes we can win the World Cup this year as well.”

Quite the oxymoronic combination here… The reset seems to have gone from “smash and grab” to “talk smack with me gab”. To be fair, Eddie has done better with the latter so fair play.

'Sums up his career': Waugh reveals how Hoops reacted to RWC snub, and the Quade hope that didn't transpire

Sexton fortunate – may have been missing up to the quarters and having not played since 6Ns would have been struggling for match fitness.

Indeed. It seems only Deans (for the most part), McKenzie and Rennie saw him as the legit first choice. The 2015 version of Foley was better though. I did wonder why Chieka, with such a ball in hand strategy didn’t look at Cooper more often from 2016 onwards.

Is that just a nice way of saying Farrell can be a D and a C at the same time?

A single 16 year cycle by the look of it Connor. The number Eddie did on them was probably the nastiest of twos particularly with a cycle time of that length. For more timely results, perhaps consider separating the yellows from whites.

The Wrap: Is Eddie Jones playing the role of Keyser Soze or Frank Drebin?

This was a well put together piece, Geoff. Sums up the what we were hearing months ago vs what we are seeing now contradiction perfectly.

As you mention, Eddie has the right to do what he wants and to play devils advocate, part of me is excited about the squad – despite some puzzling selections and non-selections.

While the Wallabies aren’t my team, I do have an interest in them and wish them well. Just could of done without the gaslighting (that may be a poor choice of word but seems the most apt right now).

Nice perspective Freddo though I think one would need to first rationalize before leaning towards a certain category. I’m in two minds about this personally.

4 beers, 3 games (SA vs NZ 2013,2014,2015 in SA) 2 whiskeys and partridge in a pear tree in. My job has just started. 😂
Brilliant afternoon. If I could email you one of these Japanese whiskeys I would. Cheers!

This piece makes me want to drink beers and watch rugby. Might just go do that.

Thanks for the read Harry.

May have been a combination of going from no/minimal rugby for 5+ weeks (for 7 of the starting XV) to international rugby and not the top 23. This was against a team that is starting to gel. Australia deserve credit the the pressure they created.

Probably not helped by untried combos in the front row, 9 and 10 (the biggest issue on the day in my opinion), 12 and 13. The outside backs were inexperienced but there was some Crusaders synergy in there.

There always seems to be a step down in class in most 2nd string teams. But with the 4, 5, 7, 8 that started the game I wouldn’t call it 2nd string entirely. The ABs were slightly off and a big part of that was about how well the Wallabies played.

Any thoughts on where the ABs faltered?

Kiwi View: This All Black team can win the World Cup but is it better than 2019?

Reasonable and accurate perspective Brendan. Fair to say that ABs are looking more tactically assured this time round and the patchy form game to game has been better for a myriad of reasons. A better coaching group and a more balanced team at top of the list.

Still though, to your point, it hasn’t been tested against the French and Irish. Looking forward to wc!

I see the logic in that Snails in both a coverage and tactical sense.

For mine, ALB is a world class 12 and 13 so while there is coverage, the quality off the bench isn’t the same as what ALB brings in the mid field. Been stung too many times in the mid field at wc’s with that. This isn’t to take away from your point though – it has just as much merit as mine.

Agree with Ofa. He currently ofas more than TW in terms of experience while usually holding his own at set piece.

Fair point WEST. And all going well – agree with that.

Yep, Nick, 100%

I actually thought we played our “final” against the Irish and couldn’t get anywhere near that level v England (and credit to the English for that). One could say that was England’s “final” because that fire was missing v the Boks in the actual final.

In this world cup, I think if we meet Ireland in the QF we’ll be right up for it because of what happened last year. The concern is whether we make the same mistake and be slightly off in the semi… (should we make it)

SA – Pollard and yeah, they needed him v the ABs last month. Good point.
