Walsh has already been and gone and come back

Listen to how he speaks about the club… didn’t he call Carrigan a c..t

Haas rejects Wallabies and Bulldogs to remain in Brisbane - mere minutes after TPJ quits to free up cap space

Hahaha… sombrero deals 😂

The Broncs have got a star studded origin laden roster and have just signed a prop for 1.3M a season and you want to point the finger at the poor old Roosters… who have Drew Hutchison playing halfback 😂 😂

Ok, that’s fine, but re-divvy the junior boundaries so it’s an even playing field…

Didn’t he tour the Panthers facilities and almost sign with them, maybe around 2014 or so…

Panthers have lost heaps of players over the past 3-4 years… Tamou, Mansour, Koroisau, Burton, Naden, Capewell, RCG, Maloney, Momorovski, Tetevano, Kikau, Egan, O’Sullivan, Katoa, Hopgood off the top of my head plus Crichton and Leniu for next year…

That’s a hell of a squeeze

Yeah for sure… I’m honestly not trying to have a crack at you or the Panthers

It’s actually the opposite… I think Penrith have done a remarkable job at tapping into their junior resources and setting up a sustainable system for success

I’m sure it’s annoying to be losing favourite players and young guns… but it’s far better than the alternative of being linked to every player on the market and trying to cobble together a team of spare parts…

With hindsight there was something wrong on Sunday

Started as good as he has in a long time but made the offload error and went into his shell, came off early and didn’t get back in until about ten to go

I actually thought he’d been playing well after coming back from injury and before Origin 1. Struggled afterwards

We expect tough dudes like TPJ to be bulletproof, but maybe had his own stuff to deal with

I appreciate his time at the Dogs – wish it could have been better for both – and wish him the best for boxing and league if he comes back to it…

NRL News: Haas' brother arrested on $1m meth charges, TPJ retirement questioned, Taumalolo set for Finals charge

Haha… Yeah I know… normally wouldn’t give a toss, but I feel like the poor old bulldogs are getting bullied at the moment 😢 😢 😂

World Cup Final rematch to headline Pacific Championships as international RL returns to Australia

But it doesn’t matter if you buy a 1.2M player from outside or re-sign one of your own juniors on 1.2M the effect in your salary cap is the same

Penrith are doing great at identifying and bringing their juniors through

As they should with their huge junior nursery

Having a reliable and consistent junior pathway is a far better position to be in than just having a large corporate sponsor. I think the proof is pretty clear on that

The three clubs that have dominated the NRL over the past 6-7 years have all had very effective junior pathways. All set up completely differently

It enables the clubs to not have to hit the player market every time they have a gap in the roster and be picky about the pieces that fit

It enables them not to get into a bidding war and overpay and retain mid tier talent because other clubs want them and they don’t have a replacement

Having a big junior nursery is a huge advantage. When your club is on the verge of a 4th straight grand finals and a third straight premiership – and that’s been the key to their success, I’m not sure how you can cry poor

Anyway, aren’t the Panthers backed by Panthers?

Haas rejects Wallabies and Bulldogs to remain in Brisbane - mere minutes after TPJ quits to free up cap space

Anasta and Crawley may turn out to be right, but are we really reporting what the reporters think now?

Neither has a shred of evidence – as usual – haven’t spoken to anyone involved, don’t have any sources and are just banging on based on the vibe

Astonishing what passes for journalism sometimes… why unfounded reporting then gets reported is confounding

Ok, thanks. I thought it was more grim than that…

NRL round 25 midweek talking points: The weaker clubs get picked off, but a bye can save the day

So I know it’s not the point of the article, but why do the Bulldogs get an absolute bake off the back of one loss, while the violins are out for the Tigers and Dragons?

We’re two wins ahead of the Dragons and three ahead of the Tigers. We’ve only played them once each and have a 2-0 record (Dragons and Tigers have played each other twice)

We’re only one win behind the Dolphins and Titans, so closer to them (at least on competition points) than the Tigers and Dragons

Maybe Buzz Rothfield does set the course for rugby league reporting after all…

NRL Run Home: Raiders, Rabbitohs looking shaky with three rounds left as 11 teams scramble for finals equation

Surely Manly and Roosters are goneskis?

While they’re mathematically a hope aren’t they both relying on a string of other results going their way?

The Sharks v Titans jerseys were daft

I don’t know that there’s heaps of games to get excited about this weekend either

Parra v Roosters at this time of the year should be a cracker but it ain’t

Cows v Sharks on Thursday and Knights v Bunnies on Sunday are probably the only ‘must see’ games for neutrals

Dogs middle has been lightweight and wafer thing all year. No TPJ next year doesn’t help. Hopefully we can get the Taukieaho deal done. Maybe consider an SOS to Paul Vaughan. Outside of that, no idea who the Dogs can go to

NRL round 25 midweek talking points: The weaker clubs get picked off, but a bye can save the day

With all games on the weekend going to the favourites, I can’t imagine much has changed with anyone’s ladder predictions

I still have the Sharks, Souths, Cowboys and Raiders finishing on 32 with the Raiders missing out on +/-

What’s everyone’s thoughts on the Panthers and Broncos, the minor premiership and potentially resting players in Round 27?

Broncs have the bye this week, so avoiding injury to key personnel (like Reynolds) would be the only reason to rest anyone

Panthers haven’t had a bye since Round 19 and despite being rested here and there, their players have had a big workload with World Cup, WCC and Origin

I think this year has been more about winning the comp for the Panthers than the minor premiership (EG relatively slow start to NRL season) MP is a nice to have but I don’t think it means as much to the Panthers as it would the Broncs

I don’t think they’ll change whatever plans they have to ensure it’s wrapped up

NRL Run Home: Raiders, Rabbitohs looking shaky with three rounds left as 11 teams scramble for finals equation

Haha… shakiest maths I’ve seen in a while, but yeah ok 😂 😂 😂

Haas rejects Wallabies and Bulldogs to remain in Brisbane - mere minutes after TPJ quits to free up cap space

They’re losing halves because they have Cleary – and possibly soon Luai – bolted into their side for the next 5-10 years

They could have retained and promoted some of those young players but they chose to sign O’Sullivan, Cogger and Laurie into their top 30

Haas rejects Wallabies and Bulldogs to remain in Brisbane - mere minutes after TPJ quits to free up cap space

I’m including them because they’re still part of the Panthers roster. We’re talking about this year, not next and I went to 2019 because you said four years ago

Really?

Panthers Round 1 2019
1. Edwards
2. Mansour
3. Whare
4. Blake
5. DWZ
6. Maloney
7. Cleary
8. Tamou
9. Egan
10. Leota
11. Yeo
12. Sele
13. JFH

14. RCG
15. Hetherington
16. Fuimaono
17. Luai

Round 25 2019
1. Edwards
2. Crichton
3. Whare
4. Luai
5. To’o
6. Maloney
7. Cleary
8. Tamou

13. JFH
14. Leniu
15. Burns

Their roster this year is waaay better. Every player in the 2019 team is heaps better now

2023 Edwards is heaps better
2023 To’o is heaps better
Whare to Crichton is a massive upgrade
Blake to Tago is a massive upgrade
DWZ to May / Turuva is neutral
I’d have Maloney ahead of Luai
2023 Cleary is heaps better
Tamou to JFH is a massive upgrade
2019 Egan to 2023 Kenny is neutral
2023 Leota is heaps better
2023 Martin is heaps better
Kikau to Hosking / Garner / Sorensen is a downgrade
2023 Yeo is a better lock than 2019 JFH

Penrith have the best roster in the competition…

Too soon… 😢

Haas rejects Wallabies and Bulldogs to remain in Brisbane - mere minutes after TPJ quits to free up cap space

No, but the Dragons gave up 16 unanswered points after one 50/50 went against them, so pinning the loss to that one decision and not their own failings on attack and defence is clutching at straws

How many points does it have to be to not blame the loss on one that one decision and on the ref? 20 points? 30?

The Dogs had the most wretched run of 50/50 calls go against them on Sunday that I’ve ever seen. Lost by 36. Can I refs fault that one? 😂 😂

It’s a shame TPJ has never quite found the key to consistency to really live up to his potential

Big, strong, mobile, skilful feels like consistency and maybe passion for the game were the missing pieces for him

So Tino’s locked in, Haas is locked in

Who TF is going to be playing pro for the Bulldogs for the next couple of years?!?!?

Middle has been a problem these last few years but looking absolutely dire now…
