That’s a good grounding experience for the young lads. Why sleep in tents? Should have had them on swags under the stars. Sleeping under stars like that gives you perspective. I hope the players got something out of the trip there. Go the Wallabies!

Crocs, snakes and bonding: Inside the Wallabies' camp and why Eddie took them back to where it all began

Sexton and now Farrell getting of lightly. In Farrell’s case, he should have gotten longer with his poor record. The judiciary let rugby down.

'Mockery', 'broken game', 'laughing stock': Rugby rages as red card reversal clears Owen Farrell for World Cup

My thoughts on the matter too. Seems to me, on the outside looking in, that Eddie had few choices given that the old heads were mostly returning from injury and lacked form and the wallabies losing ways resulted in the selections as they stand. I’m ok with it. There is a good core of young guys with talent so let them loose at the World Cup and see what they can do. Better that then injured and out of form old heads that will drop like flies.

Blah blah blah. You can’t see the forest for the trees.

The method to Eddie's 'madness' and the Wallabies team that will win RWC 2027

Great article. I enjoyed it and I believe Eddie is doing the right thing with his youth selection. Don’t worry about the negative brigade. Most won’t admit it in 4 years time that Eddie made the right decision.

Fair point

Eddie has done what was needed four years ago and ripped the bandaid off. Now he's breathed life into Aussie rugby

Eddie had to experiment given that he had a bunch of old heads in the team returning from serious injuries and only 4 games to test them and the youth out not to mention players that weren’t favoured by Rennie but had some merit in testing. My assumption is that Eddie moved quickly on his feet and adapted to what he had to work with quickly. 2 tests to see what the old heads could do and he probably envisaged and mix of young and old but they didn’t fire and he tried the youth and they did fire once given a chance. That’s how I read it from a far on the couch. Perhaps I’m wrong but that’s how I see it. Going with youth and building for the future makes sense to me. Sacrificing 4 losses with one near win, is the cost of only having 4 games to make selections with a new national team. You can suggest I’m a cult member but that would be doing my measured evaluation of Jones first 4 matches prior to a World Cup as uneducated and naive. Your choice.

Congratulations to Will. Australia’s latest redemption story. It makes sense to make a change in captain and an outsider of sorts was needed. Someone with maturity but in a way, new to the team. Funny that Will, the tallest guy in the team refers to Eddie as the “Big man”. Will has finally reached his potential as a wallaby. Credit to him.
The more I’ve thought about this team, it’s youth and what Eddie has been saying and doing, I can’t help thinking this was his plan all along or at least he had many scenarios for this World Cup and took the best option given what he had to work with in such short time. Things like we will need 4 or more captains. It was like he gave the older injured guys their chance to show what they had but when they couldn’t bring it in time, he changed tact and went for the youth of tomorrow. 4 captains, honour the past and reward the future. Slips and Hooper got captaincy and in hoopers case he didn’t cut it anymore. Many brave choices made by Eddie. Rennie had many good points but he wouldn’t have made this choice. He wouldn’t have invested in Australian rugby’s future. Why would he? He isn’t Australian and results would have been of more importance to him for his career. That’s not a slight on him, it’s just reality.

'Surprised the hell out of me': Jones gets a 'disciple for life' with left field call on 'reluctant' World Cup captain

Suggesting there is nothing there in Carter Gordon is a poor evaluation. Donaldson and Vunivalu are in the wilderness but perhaps they will be wild

Congratulations Max. Wish him a speedy recovery and if he gets his chance, I’m sure he’ll take it.

From bypassing club rugby to the World Cup in 12 months: Wallaby bolter's incredible rise

Eddie has made some tough choices. Choosing youth is an investment in the future. With the past success of the under twenties in the years previous to this year, it makes some sense. Probably not gonna win this World Cup but we probably weren’t going to anyway with the old injured players. It’s a sacrifice that hopefully bears fruit in the future. This young team will know what it takes to play a tournament and be prepared for four years time. Disappointingly off course for Samu, Hooper, Cooper, etc. Nic white is probably lucky but happy Fines-Lelewaisa gets a go. I think he is underrated. Skelton and McDermott as captains should go well. Go the Wallabies!

If anything, QC should be at the WC as a mentor to Carter Gordon.

Thanks Tony

It’s not confirmed as yet. Seems ridiculous if it’s true.

QC not being selected seems like a misdirection or misinformation. Seems ludicrous to exclude him for Donaldson however it seems likely that Eddie is looking to the future.

That is Rassie’s selection.

'Not ideal': Springboks name injured skipper for RWC but backline stars miss out as coach names FOUR halfbacks

Most people hear are just parroting past comments and views on Tate. Sone aren’t far off the mark or just aren’t accurate anymore. What you can’t knock is his attitude, leadership qualities, his undying devotion to the game, Australia and Qld. He’s not perfect but he brings the best he can.

With 2027 in mind, 'Tough little bugger' Tate McDermott is the best pick for Wallabies captain

Kerevi isn’t out. It’s a minor surgery. I’d say there is a good chance he’ll be back before the WC

Wallabies player ratings: Young forwards fire but key players struggle in Bledisloe heartache

That’s an accurate conclusion for the most part. I think if had a fully fit team to play with the original gameplan had potential. Our forwards didn’t give us a platform to start with and the backs could execute the gameplan. There have been failings. The biggest factors in my view are the returning from injury players not firing and the lack of time to test players and learn a game plan. At the least we have seen the team improve. I’m glad it wasn’t me in Eddie shoes. Credit where credit is due, even if he made some poor choices, Eddie has adjusted reasonably well. I’m saving judgement until the end of the World Cup, however far we might go.

Not playing Petaia at inside centre would have been a missed opportunity because we have 2 world class wingers in the Wallabies and Eddie would have wanted to see how both Petaia and Kellaway perform coming back from injury. Totally the right call by Eddie on both counts. Foketi is good but Petaia’s potential is greater. Kerevi is a better player than Foketi but clearly we need to allow him some time and space to fire and I’d suspect that will happen a few games into the WC. I dare say he is gaining confidence in his legs again. Hopefully we will see the line breaking bustling runs from him in 2-4 games more. Let him peak when he is needed most

Wallabies player ratings: Young forwards fire but key players struggle in Bledisloe heartache

The gameplan certainly has changed but at least he didn’t persist with it but adapted the game plan to the players he has. The previous gameplan just didn’t suit Australia’s way of playing. The attacking kick should be able to be executed effectively but that isn’t coached in 5 games leading up to the WC.
Whether you like Eddie or not, he has adapted quickly and the team selections have evolved quickly. The rise of the youth in the team is excellent. I’m sure Eddie has seen that and changed tact. Old legs with calm heads and experience have traditionally won worlds cups. Ours are coming back from injury and/or aren’t firing with form at the right time. I think Eddie has changed direction to youth that are firing and getting them WC experience for the following WC in 2027.
Jorgansen would probably have started at fullback if fit. That’s another young player that’s emerged. The likes of Nick Frost, Angus Bell, Tom Hooper, and Carter Gordon are the future. Those at 24yrs old just a few years ahead are also some of our best players, Petaia, faessler, McDermott, McReight, Schoupp and some that haven’t emerged yet in the forwards.
There is talent growing for the 2027 World Cup and Eddie has shifted his focus and his gameplan to suit what he has from my perspective on the outside looking in.
These young guys need the belief and support behind them. Exciting bunch of players.

It’s a valid concern however I don’t think his passing is as bad as everyone is suggesting

'You love your country or you don't': Tate's defiant moment that proved he had fire and desire to lead Wallabies

I disagree. He isn’t where he should be with his passing ability but it has improved. His defence is very good. How you could have that misconception is mind boggling. 80% tackle rate isn’t perfect but at his size and right in the thick of the forwards a lot of game I’d say that’s about fair. He’s faster to the ruck and speeds the game up. He snipes from the ruck which White no longer does.

'You love your country or you don't': Tate's defiant moment that proved he had fire and desire to lead Wallabies

I don’t know who the journo was but maybe it was more to do with who the journo was, plus it wasn’t the smartest question to ask. Got a response though. Is anyone shocked that Eddie is verbally smacking journos? Seriously, it’s something he is renowned for. Accept that that is what you’re gonna get from Eddie and move on.
