How good is sport, you can look at it & have a variety of perspectives & opnions.
ANALYSIS: Wallabies' maul is falling short and their French coach must fix it fast
I already have the mala beads out praying for a competitive set piece in France. Reckon we have a pretty reasonable back line so need the forwards to set a competitive set piece.
ANALYSIS: Wallabies' maul is falling short and their French coach must fix it fast
Can sort of accept Jorgo as a rookie except he is still injured & wont be ready for another 2-3 weeks. And yes Vunivalu is probably the biggest selection I can’t understand & Donaldson. The goal kicking is a concern.
WILL GENIA: Why Eddie had to choose between Nic and Quade, moment I felt Hoops was done, hardest done by duo
To be honest was always a bit iffy with Quade coming back, didn’t think we should have gone back to him, it was a short term solution, appreciating there weren’t many alternative options. My biggest gripe re selection is Vunivalu & Jorgo, really can’t see why they have been selected especially as Jorgo is still coming back from injury.
WILL GENIA: Why Eddie had to choose between Nic and Quade, moment I felt Hoops was done, hardest done by duo
Naturally I’m all in with the Wallabies but to be honest I’m less confident with this squad selection than I was before. But let’s go Wallabies.
Shock and raw: New skipper, rookies galore and Test careers brutally ended as Eddie's RWC bombshells CONFIRMED
If that is it for Hoops, its been a cracking career. Probably biased as a Tahs and Manly Marlins fan have always enjoyed the way he played, no one put in just consistent effort in every game he played. While the Wallabies didnt have all the success we want, will always have the great winning Super Rugby season, also did get to a World Cup final.
'You have no control over some things': Hoops' bleak prophecy that played out in ruthless Eddie call - and what comes next
Would like to see Michael Hooper selected (but am biased) however understand if he isn’t he has lost a bit of his edge in recent times. Also he has been to 2 World Cups. From an experience perspective a little concerned with no 7As, then not selecting Hodge & Hooper especially with a mixed bag of coaches #cohesion
Exclusive: Quade, Hooper to miss World Cup selection as Jorgensen rockets into squad
Not happy with the 0-4 results but for some reason the last couple of games the Wallabies’ play seemed more positive, I don’t know maybe it’s just the vibe. As for Marika have wondered whether he is getting used to Petaia at 13, maybe a confidence issue.
Wallabies fans appear comfortable with 0 and 4 – but some obvious questions remain
There are going to be some tight calls. The decisions in the forwards seems to revolve around 5 or 6 props & whether Michael Hooper is selected. In the backs I’d prefer to go with Wright & Hodge over Vunivalu & Donaldson. Arguably as Hodge is going to France he isn’t part of the Wallabies future so it would be understandable if he was not selected. Also can’t see how Pietsch can get a spot. Earlier Eddie mentioned the selection of the last 5 as important for the team culture at World Cup, the players who add to the team environment & don’t kick stones if not selected for games. So not sure who meets that criteria, will have to ponder that.
Wallabies' PREDICTED World Cup squad: Jones faces defining choice as he locks in 33 for France
In an almost masochistic way, enjoyed the Wallabies game. Again it showed no matter how good your backs are, your whole platform is based around your tight 5 & set piece. When your set piece is rock solid everyone feels good & confident. In the 2nd half when the scrum started to struggle I thought here we go.
The Wrap: Wallabies and All Blacks emerge from ‘dead rubber’ with plenty to take to the World Cup
Keep that glass half full. Keen to see Ryan Lonergan get a run. With the backline we have just need a general at 9 to run things. As I have said elsewhere felt a lot better after the last game than I did after the Sth Africa/Argentina games.
Where there’s life there’s hope - and there's plenty of life left in this Wallabies side
Yep start Lonergan. Hadn’t seen much of him until last season’s Australia A games, he always looks calm, under control, a real leader. Give him a go with Carter.
Setback that could cruel Wallabies' RWC hopes - but all hope not lost if Eddie sticks with Gen Next
Not sure why but despite the score I felt a lot better (apart from the tight head injuries) after that game than the Sth Africa/Argentina games. Maybe it was seeing Bell in action, maybe seeing Petaia doing ok after a long time out, maybe seeing Skelton play well, who knows. Then again maybe expectations are so low these days we are always looking for positives. Unfortunately the 2 X tight head injuries will have an enormous influence.
The Wrap: Don’t buy Eddie Jones taking the blame for another Bledisloe loss, buy the hope instead
For info, hate to say it, Kemp had a good game for the Raiders, especially as it was her first game. What stood out is that she is a big player, even the commentators mentioned her size. She would be more than handy for the Wallaroos.
Pain for the Wallaroos against Canada as three physical battles take a toll
Disappointing there is no UK/ France legs. In the end am guessing for World Rugby the 7s Series is a marketing spend & they trying work out how to get more people engaged with it, although always thought London got good attendance. Maybe the other cities are providing some good $$. Most interesting is going to be in Madrid the whole winner take all tournament plus the promo/relegations should attract interest. The challenge for 7s is that they are 3 day tournaments, no one can watch it all. In surfing they have the same problem & have introduced a winner take all format in the final competition.
HSBC SVNS shuns traditional interest for global appeal
Was thinking the same thing Knuckles did not miss with his comments. Get the feeling there is a bit of history between Knuckles and Eddie.
'Inappropriate': Eddie puts Laurie in his place over Wallaby criticism, explains Quade battle, gives Hoops, TT update
Agree I think it’s a depth issue. I like Dallinger skill set especially her passing game however as we saw in the Black Ferns game when on the back foot McKenzie provides more robustness to hang in there. Maybe she is a 12. Do wonder why Smith was dropped for the Canada game. Looking to the future I think I like Moleka at 10, she just needs a bit more size/experience. Yep Kemp a big loss, I’m going to watch the Raiders NRLW. As the 7s women, am guessing they are going to be completely siloed until after Paris Olympics.
Pain for the Wallaroos against Canada as three physical battles take a toll
Agree. Am happy to disagree with a selection, but would like to know a bit of the why.
CONFIRMED: 34-man Wallabies squad for Bledisloe series against All Blacks as trio axed in shake-up
Selections are always a challenge & opinions vary. I can understand Wright/ Hodge being dropped from the team but would have kept them in the squad. It seems odd when Donaldson & Vunivalu are kept in the squad.
CONFIRMED: 34-man Wallabies squad for Bledisloe series against All Blacks as trio axed in shake-up
Great to see all Super Rugby teams playing BIL. Not fussed either way about an ANZAC XV game. Not sure about the SS/Hospital concept, sort of like it but it does ignore the other Unions which isn’t good, but I guess cost is a big issue.
CONFIRMED: Lions tour dates, venues announced with big twist on Anzac XV concept and every SR team playing
Yes the Wallaroos score was a surprise. Have enjoyed the PAC4 series.
Pain for the Wallaroos against Canada as three physical battles take a toll
It’s a great question. No they aren’t full time professional, a lot of players play in the UK. Not sure why they are currently so good. Maybe it just a generational thing. Hopefully they have a crop of youngsters coming through also to keep up their standard. The women’s Canadian 7s team has dropped right down the ranking after getting a medal at the Rio Olympics. For a number of years on the World Series they were in the top 4/5 but have had a few key retirements and have not been able to replace them. The same has happened to men’s 7s/15s, who were always reasonably competitive but have dropped down. The Canadian men haven’t qualified for this years World Cup in Paris.
